Tech News Dish launches 5G service in over 120 cities in the US, powered by Samsung’s hardware

Dish has finally launched its 5G cellular network in the US. The wireless service is now available in over 120 cities across the country, offering fast download and upload speeds. The launch was a bit of a surprise, though, as the company was reportedly behind the launch schedule.

Samsung Networks’ hardware powers Dish Wireless’ 5G network. Samsung made the announcement last month, and according to the multi-year deal, Dish Wireless will use 5G O-RAN-compliant virtualized RAN (vRAN) solutions and radio units from Samsung Networks.

The company is offering its service starting at $20 per month, which includes unlimited voice calls, text, and 5G data. However, you can only buy one phone on the network right now: Galaxy S22. On the bright side, the phone is being offered for 50% off, which translates to just $400.

This new 5G network is available in Albuquerque, Boise, Charlotte, Cleveland, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth, Hartford, Houston, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Nashville, Norfolk, Oklahoma City, Orlando, Pueblo, Raleigh, Rochester, Salt Lake City, Spokane, Springfield, St. Louis, and Stockton. You can look at the complete list of cities on Dish’s Project Genesis website.

The FCC’s deadline for Dish’s 5G network rollout was about to expire, and the company seems to have put in the extra work to make the launch happen in time and avoid around $16 million in fines.
