Samsung is developing a new rugged smartphone. Whether it’s called the Galaxy Xcover Pro 2 or Galaxy XCover 6 Pro isn’t entirely clear at this point, but what is clear is the phone’s exterior design.

We’ll refer to this upcoming Samsung rugged device as the “Galaxy XCover 6 Pro” for consistency’s sake. More to the point at hand, official renders depicting the Galaxy XCover 6 Pro 5G have now emerged online (via WinFuture), signaling an imminent market release.

The Galaxy XCover 6 Pro 5G has a vertical stripe pattern on the back panel, while the phone’s edges have deeper grooves. Check out the image gallery below for more details.

A new phone with a user-removable battery?

The back of the phone accommodates a dual-camera setup with a red metallic finish surrounding each sensor. And by the looks of it, the back panel is removable, which could mean that the internal battery is also user-removable.

Not many phones offer this feature today, but the Galaxy XCover 6 Pro 5G appears to be holding on to this unique characteristic. In practical terms, a phone with a removable battery allows users to swap a depleted unit with a fully charged one and keep the phone running without having to waste any time recharging. It’s a great feature, especially for enterprise customers.

At the front, the Galaxy XCover 6 Pro 5G’s rugged nature becomes even more visible. The device has thick bezels, and the lip surrounding the display appears to be sticking out a bit to protect the panel in case of a fall.

And like other phones in the rugged series, the Galaxy XCover 6 Pro 5G has a side key, a volume rocker, and two additional, configurable hardware buttons. The phone also has a USB-C connector at the bottom and a 3.5mm headphone port at the top.

The Galaxy Xcover 6 Pro 5G recently passed through the FCC and popped up in a Google Play console listing. Samsung might prepare a surprise announcement soon, and we’ll keep our ears to the ground. Stay tuned.
